APPLICATION . Plant them at focal points in borders, between shrubs and in tubs near a terrace. POSITION . Full sun. SOIL REQUIREMENT . Well-drained, preferably alkaline soil, enriched with leaf-mould or compost. CULTIVATION . It is recommended to plant the bulbs on their side to prevent water getting into the hollow crown, which may cause rotting. In heavy soil some lime rubble or sand may be put around the bulb. When well established they should be left undisturbed for several years. When the plants become overcrowded lift the bulbs in August, divide and replant them, but they are likely to take at least a year to settle down again. NOTE . These bulbs require time to establish and may not flower the first year. But they should be left in place for the best results in the future.
