APPLICATION . Naturalizing under trees or shrubs, at the edge of borders, in rockeries, between paving stones, or in tubs on terrace or balcony. They look particularly attractive in a winter corner close to the house in combination with Anemone blanda, Chionodoxa (Glory of the snow), Iris reticulata and Snowdrops.
POSITION . Full sun in winter but some shade of trees or shrubs in full summer.
SOIL REQUIREMENT . Well-drained soil remaining moist throughout the year. They do not thrive in a dry soil.
CULTIVATION . Hardy in all areas. The tubers dry out easily and must be planted immediately after purchase. Lifting, dividing and replanting after foliage has died is only necessary at about five-year intervals.
